After Douglas Putnam's death in 1894 the home was sold to Harry D. Knocks for $12,000. It was Mr. Knocks who addedd more work onto this beautiful home adding a driveway in a shape of an anchor. This is where it recieved it's current name of the Anchorage. After leaving the hands of Harry Knocks the Anchorage was sold to several different people.
In 2007 The Mid Ohio Valley Ghost Hunters and The Washington County Historical Society have teamed up with a schedule of ghost hunts to be conducted. While conducting these hunts many have experienced strange encounters. Footsteps which can be heard almost any where within these walls. Voices being found on their audio and video recorders when they play them back. Some actually claim they could feel the presence of a soldier in the rooms that they went into. One young lady even felt someone rubbing her back as if they were trying to comfort her. The lady beside her claims that she could feel cold air across her back while this was happening.
In 1966 the Anchorage was purchased by a nursing and rest home until it closed in 1986. Over this period of time many employees have reported hearing footsteps and seeing visions of a lady in a long dress in the halls and at top of the staircase. One employee had actually left this place and said she will never return to work in this building again.
Audio recorders are even reported shutting of by themselves. The list will continue to grow as time goes on. Some may not believe these and other stories are true but those who have been here before knows the truth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ghost hunts may not be for everyone.
