| Putnam Place A.K.A The Anchorage This 22 room Italian style mansion was built by Douglas Putnam, for his wife Eliza in 1859. Eliza Putnam was not able to enjoy her new home for long. | Hippodrome A.K.A. The Colony Theatre May 9, 1919 the Hippodrome open to the Public with a seating of 1,200. In 1929 the installation of up to date equipment made the Hippodrome the #1 amusement palace in Marietta, Ohio. In 1949 the Hippodrome was purchased by Shea Theatres of New York. And as a result of a contest the Hippodrome changed it's name to it's current name, The Colony Theatre. The colony was Shae's favorite theatre. In 1981 the Colony was purchased by a local woman by the name of Marjorie Bee. In it's prime the Colony had many famous visitors, such as horror movie star Boris Karloff and well known singers Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Tex Ritter, Minnie Pearl and Randy Travis. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Many still feel Shae's presence through out the Colony Theatre.
